Booka Shade

Heading off to Parklife festival tomorrow! Excited about seeing the booka shade boys live.
Just came across this mix by chance over on PlayGround Mag

Check it out...

6.06.2010

met up with an old friend in london today and caught up on a 5 mile stroll around central, the weather was awesome, and despite regent street smelling like non-refrigerated meats because today is the taste of spain festival i had a really awesome time

this track is part of a new genre ive decided lots of tracks i post falls under called bbq, as in most of the music i listen to is suitable for a sunny day in the garden with friends enjoying bbq food. have a listen

i really like sneaky sound system

i also really like my ps3 again. it goes up and down with me dependent on how busy i am and how often i can play. with all the free time ive had since finishing the roughest academic year i've had in my /career/ ive had the opportunity to play to my hearts content, and i have to give kudos to rockstar for creating red dead redemption (GTA on horses). its fantastic, really.
KUDOS

EDIT: Pogo, not DJ Pogo - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pogo_(electronic_musician)

Had to give this guy a mention. Pogo is a dj/producer from Perth his style covers an eclectic mix of genres including jazz, hiphop, classical, and of course many more. He likes to create music using purely sounds alone, which is featured here in 'Upular'.

Rynecologist also did a nice re-edit of this which you can find here.

He also made this track from samples of the one of the classic carry-on films: Carry On Cruising

Para one!¡!¡!¡!¡!

THIS PARA ONE TRACK IS AWESOME AND DESERVES A BIG POSTY POST ON IT. WELL NICE TUNE.

Milke? Monarchy?

Wayyy back in 2009 i posted THIS

It's the designer drugs remix of Milke's Love get out of my way.

So the other day i hear not Milke but Monarchy's Love get out of my way with Holy Ghost on the remix. It's pretty cool. And it would seem Milke is now Monarchy, with suspicion that one half may very well be the dance hero that is Stuart Price. Nothings confirmed yet though.
For now heres the tune. Nice n disco dancy.

Triple Bill

Here's my top three tracks of the moment...

The XXXChange boys are back with another awesome vibe on this track. I really like the sounds.
Really deep, warm bass. Nice.

A cool remix by Night Waves, one half of the Binary blog, those unfamiliar, check it out! This track is really big, lots going on for it. The original is also a top tune.

Finally...

This track is amazing, warm bubbling awesomely panned sounds, somehow the guys behind renaissance man manage to sit you right in the middle of the music. Top stuff. Yes, it kinda sounds like an episode of glee, but, it's awesome. believeeeee. PEACE ✌ x

Back to BrokeOne

BrokeOne is still going strong, we posted Lightheart a while back which is an awesome summer tune, look back through the archives to find it.

BrokeOne recently dropped a new mix, and in this time of revision im all about the mixes...

Chilled as. Awesome.

Boy 8-bit's essential mix

Boy 8 bits essential mix is good. Wait, thats under selling it; it is in fact very very good.
My favourite essential mix is fakebloods from early 2009 but this definitely rivals it.
(The above pic is from a Prostitutes and Policeman night, P+P DJs are a duo from manchester who put on a bi-ish monthly top artist electo night, they have hosted the likes of MSTRKRFT, Fake Blood, Myles Dyson, Noob, Jack Beats, Popof, Aeroplane and Switch. Awesome stuff.
They also host a really awful night called acceptable in the 90s, but lets not worry about that)

Here is boy 8 bit's mix in all its glory. (thanks to SUPMAG for the host)

Exams

For all those taking exams right now, don't despair just listen to this and you'll be on the right track...

5.17.2010

A-trak

A-traks just dropped a new mixtape. DIRTY SOUTH DANCE 2. Dirty south dance was dropped way back in 2007 and now hes come back strong with another lot of fresh rap/dance mashups to great effect. It's an eclectic sound so prepare yourself.

☼☼☼☼☼☼☼SUNNY DAYz☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼

Today is an awesome day in Manchester, exam went well this morning and now the sun is shiningggggggg. Awesome. The upcoming EP from Carte Blanche features kid sister in the track Do!Do!Do! it's a fantastic warm house sound perfect for summer. For those of you unaware of kid sister check out her myspace...

CHOOSE GRUM

this is actually a photo i took on my super cool blackberry (i jest, i hate the fucking thing), with my noticeably steady hand- you can really see the clear crisp edges. i saw this in victoria underground station on the walk from victoria line to d/c lines and i dno if its actually for grum, but i couldnt think what else it could be for?

heres a sweet grum remix ive been listening to recently, i like the sort of deep and "low" sound to it.

who knew

i did not know how good google chrome was! i thought it was pushed far too much on; underground billboards, above ground billboards, video billboards, 50% of every adspace on the internet, etc. But i gave in and downloaded it now that i saw 'extensions' (whatever they are) are available on mac. its awesome. everyone switch. it has crashed a few times since ive been using it but probably only because i was fidgeting with the setting and not realising what i was doing. its cool, clean, fast, sophisticated. i like it.

also been listening to loads of odahl whilst revising- only 3 more exams to go and then im /free/ :D

im in the library right now but i cant be bothered to study so im writing in public so people can see me writing and think im super cool. i even have a starbucks coffee next to me, i mean blogging has to be authentic right?

anyway

go ahead and enjoi these tracks and support odahl (http://soundcloud.com/odahl) by buying his, admittedly very few, tracks on itunes etc

This is a top track from Lorenz Rhode: funkyfresh.

miami horror is so cool

i've been at home in the country for a few weeks. it was great at the start because i saw people but when the people who have cars went back to uni i've been confined to my house, with nobody to talk to and fucking slow internet. the country has its pros but it certainly has its cons aswel.

so i'm going back to london tomorrow ready for my exams in two weeks and here's a new track from miami horror which reminds me of music you'd listen to on the way home from a vacation, or something. it's the opposite of what i'm doing (i'm going away from home) but either way, this song makes for good travelling music.

enjoi

'Moon Theory - Miami Horror'

also Binary blogged this track a few days ago, i've not stopped listening to it. it's so awesome. i'll be glad when i get back to my speakers in my flat so i can listen to it with a certain amount of bass not typically found on macbookpros.

'Hold Me - Odahl'

i should be studying but im too hyped to be going to new york tomorrow so im sitting around browsing the internet. this is the best thing ive seen on the internet today.

Fillippo Minelli's Art Portfolio

have a look through the links on the left, they're really inspiring/funny/creative

and here, enjoy a sample of what's to come on the next kitsune maison compilation, due for release april 26th :D:D

'Something Good (The Twelves Remix) - Two Door Cinema Club'

'Short & Entertaining - Jamaica' - this is cool, and apparently jamaica are produced by one of the french guys from justice. french house is a small world.

works for me

deciding to take a break from my first day of revision (real analysis- i didn't know it was interesting ?:\)

firstly, i saw kick-ass last night in the crowded islington vue. the movie was hilarious, really original and didn't showboat the starring as much as i thought it would. to be honest, if i had known nicholas cage was in it i probably wouldn't have gone to see it, but as fate has it i had no idea he was "batdad" and i thought his performance was great. he really played his character properly and actually made me laugh. as for the other actors, yeah they were very good. the main guy- "kick-ass" -is the same age as me (the actor, not character) and i couldnt do half as good a job as he did playing an amateur vigilante. also dale from greek was really funny, and should have had more screentime in my opinion.

this movie is violent, funny, and has a fit girl the superhero is after. it's everything the spiderman series isn't.

well worth seeing.

GO SEE IT, jeez.

also heard this track by the twelves this morning and despite the rain last night and dull weather all day, i wore shorts to college because the track is summer electro at it's best.

'Works for Me - The Twelves'

peace

chris

p.s. "hit-girl" in kick-ass is insanely funny. chloe moretz is a talented young actress

3.25.2010

Impressive.

Definitely Impressed that these guys could turn gaga into something remotely googood.

3.17.2010

Feedle - Home

I really like this song by feedle. It's pretty old but still really feel good.
Feedle is Graham from Sheffield as far as i'm aware.
He has more music here:
http://www.myspace.com/feedlemusic

This is the track:

Ok, go.

wow. what a video.

BURNS

BURNS has been out there for a while, done a couple of very good remixes which i can't remember off hand. I tried searching for him the other day but he's very hard to come by, thankfully i found this nice tune he has made. It's biggggg.
♻ remember to recycle ♻

fed up of mashups

in general aren't mashups just irritating? i just imagine someone sitting at a computer for hours thinking about songs which have the same rhythm or whatever then just laying lyrics of one ontop of music from another without much thought at all, like the white pandas tipsy in the sun which puts j-kwon's tipsy lyrics on weezer's island in the sun smooth summer track- and to my surprise a shitload of people love this track on hypem. sometimes mashups are funny but today theyre irritating along with the fact i have a test in 2 hours. probably should be studying.

here's an indie/folk track i've been listening to recently. it's really nice so give it a listen

'Home - Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros'

ill try to blog more positively in future, i realize all i ever do is whine about lady gaga and other crap

peace

3.15.2010

i cant shake the feeling that summer is round the corner

this video is exceptional
this track is so awesome

well done jonas akerlund, what with david guetta and lady gaga videos to your name, you're a real success story

erm

i dont want to go too far into the lady gaga bs videoshortmoviethingshethoughtwouldbefuntomake. just two things

somebody should stop jonas akerlund

lady gaga is no better than those people on facebook whom make pages with content that might appear interesting in the title so you click on it, only to find out you have to become a fan to see the content, just because the creator thinks that getting fans on facebook is a feat to be proud of?(seriously, on most of these pages there is a running total on the wall of how many people join, despite that information being freely available in the sidebar, and all i wanted was to see 'the worst text to send your mom'). i digress. lady gaga is just a freak and my theory is all she wants is youtube hits

her success is a mindfuck to me

3.10.2010

marina - not shakira! i think we get it

really cannot make my mind up about marina and the diamonds. mowgli's road was pretty cool, as was the russ chimes remix, then she releases hollywood which is BS and i hear her album is debatable. i'm glad she's injecting something different than what most young female artists are bringing to the table of the current music scene, but there's a limit before her music might become as weird as lady gaga itself. anyways passion pit throw some summer synth on this and yeah, it's good

'I am Not a Robot (Passion Pit Remix) - Marina and the Diamonds'

3.09.2010

on the raz

im really getting into raz ohara and the odd orchestra. the music is dope to chill to or shoulder dance to, its nothing too heavy, but not slow enough to send you to sleep.

Top notch track with an awesome build up really warm sounds. One for the summer ☀

oscars 2010

thought id write my opinion of some of the awards given out last night or saturday night, whenever the oscars happened because im not entirely sure

although the hurt locker is a VERY good movie i didnt think it should have been awarded best motion picture
in all honesty i thought it should have gone to district 9, my personal favourite movie of last year, due to the fact that as soon as i saw district 9 i wanted to watch it again instantly, and every time i have seen it i never get bored. ive seen the hurt locker a few times now and to be honest, i dont appreciate everything about it on successive screenings

i completely agreed with sandra bullock getting her oscar for leading female role in the blind side. i was apprehensive to watch this movie, i could not care less about american football or english for that matter, but was impressed by the story and sandra's "comeback" performance. having only seen TBS, an education and precious from this category i cant have a full opinion but i have no idea how precious was even considered for oscars, i thought it was shit, and an education was a pointless story to watch but i imagine is a good read.

i havent seen crazy heart so i cant comment on jeff bridges oscar for his leading role in it, apart from jeff bridges is awesome

christopher waltz best supporting actor for IB - yes, everyone agrees? good, he was amazing in it

due to the fact i hated precious i think the supporting actress oscar should have gone to anna kendrick for up in the air. although i didnt love the movie, she was good in it. and shes hot.

kathryn bigelow best achievement in directing for hurt locker- agreed. first modern war movie that hasnt sucked ("modern" - i.e. not including saving private ryan which is awesome), thoroughly enjoyed the movie

i dont agree with the hurt locker getting best screenplay over the coen brothers a serious man. a serious man was hilarious, confusing, engaging- despite stuhlbarg's character's detachment from reality, and definitely deserved an oscar in this category

district 9 should have won best screenplay based on previously published material. im so glad peter jackson gave blomkamp $30mil to make this movie, it made my summer. the short movie it was based on, alive in joburg, had the idea and depth to be appreciated widely, but it didnt have peter jacksons name on every poster plastered around the cities of earth. i havent read push, the novel which precious was based on, but i cannot express how much i did not like that movie and must assume the book is just as bad.

visual effects to avatar, we all knew it was going to happen when jake chases neytiri through pandora foliage before he's surprisingly accepted into the navi/nabi tribe despite being a sleepwalker or whatever the natives called the avatars. i couldnt help thinking throughout the entire movie that this must be what taking acid is like. it sent shivers down my spine and was topped only by the floating mountains further in to the three hour epic. district 9 effects were good, the last twenty minutes are a guys heaven of a movie with exploding people everywhere, and i was amazed to find out every single alien was cgi, but avatar did have an edge over d9

fantastic mr fox should have got best music, thought it was awesome the way the music made you feel involved with the covert operations carried out by animals

animated movie, pixar surprise surprise. i was pleasantly surprised by up, but nothing tops wall.e for me, that movie is topnotch

i saw a prophet and am in agreement that it wasnt that great so shouldnt have got an oscar. yet to see el secreto de sus ojos so i reserve judgement.

finally- YES the cove got best documentary. ok i didnt see any of the others but im not really a documentary type of guy. i only saw this movie because on my daily commute for about a month there was a promo poster of dolphins and a diver outside the elevator i get at gloucester road, and i thought i like underwater stuff so i went to see it. touching, moving, daring movie that i thoroughly enjoyed

there you have some of my opinions on the oscars

oh and one last one

what the fuck is wrong with ben fucking stiller? he cant act so im not entirely sure why hes in the acting business and did you see the bullshit stunt he pulled? fuckin douche

check out emancipators new album - Safe in the Steep Cliffs

it's a bit samy but still really chilled. revision times coming up so we all need some chill music to listen to

'Single Ladies (Party Ben Mashup) - Beyonce vs Andy Griffiths Show'

2.28.2010

Thats the way i like it...nice and 80s style

This track is in a similar style to that of DuckSauce (although released prior to Ducksauces' formation as far as im aware), should be hyped more; its awesome.
I heard it in FAC251 on opening night and haven't been able to find what it is till now.
So glad i did. Sampling "That's the way (uh-huh uh-huh) i like it" heres (in 320)...

tv shows

i love watching tv shows but whats better is when the show has a good soundtrack to it

remember Teachers from channel 4 from like 5 or so years ago? had an awesome soundtrack including kings of leon, mr scruff, awsome stuff

90210 also has a pretty good soundtrack, although you wouldnt think it right? e4 used delphic's red lights on their latest ad for the show an i like it so have a listen

'Red Lights - Delphic'

Glee has some pretty good amateur-ish singers. when artie sings dancin' with myself it's awsum, an when quinn sings say a little prayer it's pretty good cos she's buff

here's a hilarious slowed down version

2.07.2010

this week saw the finalisations put to krafts takeover of cadbury. i had no idea kraft was an american company until now, who would with such a ridiculous spelling of the word craft as it's title?, but i learnt that kraft was the name of the guy who started the business so yeah, i got told.

to be honest i dont care. it if gets the british population to stop eating the shit cadburys plows into the market in packaging with only a faint hope that the chocolate inside might not taste like dirt then thats great because the good chocolate brands might become cheaper
or perhaps we'll see more american type chocolate around, like hersheys cookies n cream, which is buff

if this news is getting you down you should listen to these tracks. the first three are pretty chilled and the last one is funky and upbeat

erykah is sick
the healer was played at the beginning of crookers' essential mix in june 2008 and ive been hooked ever since. she knows how to entertain ears

stumbling on another of the whitest boy alive's tracks has no surprise in the style of the song you might hear, but it doesn't make it any less good

this is well chilled. dont really know anything about dr. dog.

the only thing that irritates me about mstrkrft is that they think dropping vowels from words make sense and is interesting
on the other hand, their creativity makes up for their failure to adhere to english grammar
also check out Flashback by wolfgang gartner, it made MOS sessions 6 good
